hi all,
what a great week end....still can't believe i got to see Vinnie play and on top of that, talk to da man.
Thanks John for giving us a chance a chance to approach him.I owe you bro'.Too bad Zak and his dad had to leave and unfortunately miss him.
It was great meeting you Zak,hope next HOD hang will be in Paris.
Back to Vinnie.Zak gave you a great review of yesterday's show,so i'll give you today's matinne show review.
As i told John,Vinnie seemed very relaxed, just like yesterday in fact ,before the incident. He pulled off more sick stuff than yesterday and took longer solos. The chemistry was there again and that was the coolest part of it actually. Those guys were really having fun on stage playing together.Bill Evans cracked jokes all the way through each time he got a chance to.It's even more enjoyable when it happens like that.
The band was awesome,Bela Fleck is without a doubt an amazing banjo player, and Darol Anger, which i'd never heard about, managed to make the fiddle sound good in that context. Not to mentio J.Haslip whose talent in long time known.
Great concert after all.I suggest you guys should check out the cd when it comes out in September. There might be a lot of good stuff on it and probably some odd ones too.But overall very interesting.
My last words will go to John for making my stay so enjoyable.Man,how can i ever thank you enough??
Thanks to you i finally got to Meet Vinnie who, despite his anger, acted very courteous and kind to us.I wanted to ask 55.000 questions but felt too embarrassed to do it.But an unforgettable moment for me for sure,AWA a climax in my musical career.I feel a great motivation takin' over me now and it feels awesome.
So thanks again Jean.Merci mon ami.
I didn't record the show for it was way too risky but i'll try upload some clips.I was sitting quite far from the stage today so i don't know what it's gonna be like.
"I'm so happy,i can't stop crying..."
hey drumaddix!!
sounds like you had an awesome time, im so glad for you! Your lucky to have met both John and Vinnie!
now i got a question, i got the chance between going to japan to the Jeff Beck gig with Vinnie for 2 nights! or going to L.A in the summer!
I think im going to choose Japan unless vinnie is playing live this summer in L.A!
Hey S.P:today i tried to get you a note from Vinne but after havingh waited half an hour in line,he was giving advice to a young drummer,I felt sad for you cos' he had to leave. So ,apart from saying hi on behalf of John,i could only shake hands with him ,hopefully stealing some his fluid, and was unable to ask him to write a note for you.
i'm very sorry for you since i'd loved to get this gift for you.
Now,as to wher you should go this summer....well,that's atough one bro'.I've had such an incredible stay here in Los Angeles(thanks John) that it seems obvious to me that it's would be worth cominbg to California.
Chances are,you might not be able to see Vinnie play live, but ther's so many great drummers here that it might make up for it.
On the other hand,Because i wanted to see Vinnie,i actually had to change my tickets and spent a fortune over it just to see this man.So i feel you there. You probably love Vinnie as much as i do and pretty much don't 'care' about the others so to speak.Even tho' i'm sure you'd have a blast seeing GN,Erskoman or any of those cats.

i feel like i'm making it even more confusing for you right now.Sorry. 'bout that.
Is Vinnie touring all summer in Japan? If he's not there might be a chance he'd be in California same time as you.
If i were you,but once again i'm not,i'd go to L.A because there's some serious sheeeet going on there pretty much ALL THE TIME.
The Beck concert seems risky since you're not even sure you can meet Vinnie aftershow and if it's a big venue, you might end up being seated 3miles from him.
How come i feel i'm not being helpful at all here?
It's a tough decision to make anyways, and only you can make it.We've all done crazy things in order to get some of the magic Vinnie can display,so noone would blame you if you were to go to Japan.good luck on your decision bro'.
HEy Drumaddix! thats a great gesture man! The fact that you even thought of me and tried to get a note is already a wicked gift!
Yeah there are some influencial factors for my decision, i have to check how far away from the front the seats will be, and yeah, i guess meeting Vinnie is a big one too. My dad said if i wanted to go to Japan we could and then we would see about L.A later. If i can save up enough dough (meaning i can't go out or buy ANY cds) then i could pay for my own trip to japan and go to l.a with my dad after...but then again, this might be my only chance seeing Vinnie whilst shiz is going down in L.A all the time everyday no matter when!
I'll have to give it some more thought, i was excited to meet all the hod guys and Steve also!
Its a tough one
Thanks again for thinking of me man!! hope you had a blast!
There is also a downside to Japan as the website is in Japanese, the show is not that much of a long time away and i just tried calling the ticket place in tokyo and its a machine in japanese so i don't know how on earth im going to get tickets.
Is there anyway anyone here could find out if Vinnie might be playing this summer in L.A or around Cali? Anywhere in the u.s actually!?
It would really be helpful thanks a lot

S.P:John is the one who should get credit for this gesture. He actually called me, as he knew i was going to attend today's matinee show, and asked me to ask Vinnie on his behalf if he would do it.
I would have been very happy to achieve this mission but i failed.maybe some other time.
thanks anymay man.i appreciated.
Thats awesome man! John's been really kind to me without even really knowing me to well (hopefully i managed to give him some insight into myself as a person when we speak over e-mail) I don't know how i will ever be able to repay him, even the gesture already means sooo much to me and i wanna thank him for thinking of me...and you of course for trying, which is already more than i could ever ask for!
Thank you guys so much! HOD rules!
Well.... just got home and ate something (1:30am monday). Settling in from a long and very enjoyable weekend in Frisco.
1st off I want to say that hanging with Zak and his dad was a very cool experience. Drums and cars over sushi!! What else could a mechanic/drummer ask for!!
Canarsie!!?? Where were you man!!?? We missed meeting up with you!!
Shedder.... we missed you too!! Hopefully we'll see you for Altered at the B.P. on sunday and/or Bisonette at Cafe' Cordial on thurs.
Drumaddix.... You know I'll be taking you up on that offer in Paris. It's time for me to visit, it's been too long since I've been. Mon maison c'est ton maison mon ami!!
Steve Holmes. Without you and your hostboard, this stuff wouldn't be happening. Thank you and all the HOD members for the medium for this type of exchange to happen in a global fashion. I really feel that drummers are a community all their own in the musical world.
Vinnie?? What can I say. As the Weckmiester once said, "he's an animal". Scoops it up, chews it up, and spits it out like nobody else. As others had said, the interaction was comical between those guys. They were really having fun. The improv was great, the comping between the interesting combination of instruments was experimental and wonderfull. And Vince always seems to play stuff that just "fits".
Drumaddix?? I can just imagine seeing what you told me about Vince doing "arena rock stick twirling" and acting like he was trying to take a chomp out of the cymbals!! OHHH!!! My sides are hurting from the laughter!!
Wished I could have gotten tickets for the matinee. He's a comic when he wants to be!!
When Vince left the stage pissed after the last tune, everyone started the typical "encore" clapping and hooting, but then the lights came on after a while on the deaf ears of the band. Just then I wanted to shout, "thanks a lot DICK!!!" (to the guy filming of course
Totally ruined the whole vibe of the gig. And as Zak said, you could just see the eggs frying on Vinnies head when he was blowing his last solo on the last tune. DAMN!!! And that tune had a cool groove too!!
Saw Roger Burn (Vibe player and keyboardist) and started to chat with him after the gig, talked to the violin player and asked him about some of his influences. Darol said Jean Luc Ponty and of all things, he liked listening to horn players for his ideas and or concepts for applying his violin playing to band situations.
Then Vince came out and was doing something behind the kit...... so I shouted "Vince"!! I was sooo glad he decieded to come over and say hi to all of us.
We all condoned with his feelings about the guy with the camera, and he really opened up to us regarding his specific feelings about video taping.
For him........ he told us its about the intellectual property violations, the usual poor quality of the bootlegs, and the ebayers that are selling his stuff and making a profit off of it. I could completely relate to what he's saying. I didn't go to school for many years to tell everyone how to fix their cars. So at work, when people call, I'll give them "some" info, but eventually tell them to "bring it in, and we can fix it".
The same applies to Vince. He spent years and alot of money to get where he is today, and his playing on projects and his intellectual property is what's worth the money and supports him. I totally understand his position in a personal fashion.
I asked him about publically broadcasted shows that he played on (Sting/Wowow/Japanese TV, Joan Rivers, etc), and his feeling was that was fine, as long as "some" people weren't selling it on ebay for a profit.
Sooooo.... I couldn't help myself. I had to ask Vince about the recent thread regarding "Jazz" and his ability to play it. His words were that if "some people" thought that he didn't play "jazz", well then he really didn't care what they thought. But he did say that they should talk to the hundreds of "jazz" musicians that HAVE hired him to do work and explain to them that he doesn't play "jazz". So until these "certian people" were getting calls for the rediculous amount of "jazz" work that he gets, they should basically fly a kite.
S.P.?? Did you go to the Weckl clinic yet?? Did you get my e-mail?? I was going to ask Vince to write a little "diddy" to you, but I forgot on Sat night, so then I asked Drumaddix to do the same. I guess Vince was too busy after the Sunday matinee as Drumaddix said. Next time lil buddy
Hey John! Great review man!
No the Weckl Clinic is on thursday, my Psychology exam finishes at 7:15 and i have to get across to the other side of hong kong on to the mainland for the clinic which starts at 8! Its free seating aswell for the first time so i would have gone early to get good seats! I think hes having an autograph session so i'll be sure to talk to him about you said! and i'll say hi to him for you!!!!
You don't know how much i appreciate the fact that you thought of getting me a note from Vinnie, means a lot! I get so excited for you guys that are going to watch vinnie as if i was going to watch him!!
Did the dvds i sent arrive at your house yet?
Yeah about the jazz thread comments thats for sure, the artists Vinnie has played with speak for themselves.

John, I think Vinnie's comment about the "Jazz thread" speaks for itself. I couldn't have given a better answer myself.
